KLR Foreign Service Officers Cap Badge.
Hello chaps,
Can someone tell me the usual dimensions of the FS1 and FS2 unofficial KLR Officers cap badges, I've attached images of such a badge, were these, I wonder, the same size as WO Pattern 4362A/1896? |

Not sure what FS1 and FS2 are, I know there are a variety of examples of the unofficial Kings FS cap badge but do 1 and 2 refer to specific examples ?
Thanks P.

I've been ploughing through everything that has ever been posted on these forums about the KLR, and I have, of course, seen a great many contributions from Julian (KLR) In one of these posts, Julian mentions the Foreign Service badge worn in India and specifically, the FS1 badge design that was worn by Officers and ORs of the 1st Bn and ORs of the 2nd Bn, and the FS2 design that was the 2nd Bn, Officers only, badge.
At present, I am using an ORs 1926 badge as a gapfiller, if the FS Officers badge turns out to be the same size as the Officers 1926 regular pattern, it will make a pleasing alternative for my collection, although a somewhat different badge, it is, nonetheless, a KLR Officers item and it will, at least, be the same size as the OSD version that I already have. I forgot to attach Julian's images, the first lot are the FS1 type, and the 2nd ones are the FS2 Officers only.

I should perhaps attach a pic of the relevant part of my collection, if this KLR FS silver/gilt badge is the right size, I'll use it to replace the ORs gapfiller that you can see there at the moment. That will, at least, be one badge I can stop, unsuccessfully, searching for, unfortunately, I do still need a KLR 1896 silver/gilt to replace the other ORs gapfiller that I have in that group.

Yes, many thanks for that, Denis, they certainly do seem to be the same size, unfortunately, the seller of the badge in post #1 hasn't responded to my queries about it's dimensions. That's not very encouraging, of course, but faint heart never won fair lady, I guess, so I'll order the badge and see what transpires.

These may or may not help.

My grandfather's 1926 Pattern S&G cap badge - worn when CO in LUOTC in the 1930s. Height 45g, Width 48mm, Weight 15.42g. I'll try and find the S&G and OSD photographs. (I worked in a museum for 35 odd years - where we measured everything etc - so in retirement I measure etc for my near 280 KLR cap badges. I'm sorry that I don't have a FS offr badge (aching to get one) but have one OR's Last edited by KLR; 17-06-23 at 03:16 PM. |

Many thanks for all your help, chaps, and all the splendid images of your KLR badges, I'm glad to say that I have now ordered the badge in question. This has finally stirred the seller into action, it does sadly seem that he didn't receive my emails, however, I am very pleased to say that he has confirmed that the FS silver/gilt KLR badge that he's got, is 47mm x 44mm, Hooray !!!

I'm very pleased to report that the KLR silver/gilt cap badge that I originally enquired about, has assumed it's rightful place in my collection. I didn't plan on having a FS badge like this, and I don't really know how these are regarded, versus the regular pattern, but, irrespective, it'll do for me! The search is now on for a nice, silver/gilt, pre 1926, Officers badge, to keep my pre 1926 OSD badge company.
