Default para gaunt flawed slider silver sweetheart

a recent purchase a lovely (IMO) chrome not silver plated Parachute regiment Beret badge with a brooch conversion.

It has the well 4 known Gaunt flaws and interestingly it appears to have been a slider fitted badge before it was converted to brooch fittings with an added fine chain and safety pin.

It came with a named photo of the owner of it as a brooch.

They might be for easier removal though I think the normal lugs or sliders are easy to use, so yes, probably for brooches or less likely a repair

But maybe the broche makes it a real sweatheart one. That being said from my small knowledge on that subject, french commandos were giving their real beret badges to their sweatheart without any modifications.
Removing a slider just for that might be a pain, but it might be a pre broken one as you said.
