Essex O/R
I have acquired this badge but it seems to be a bit different
the stalks at bottom of the scroll are not there and the castle and wreath proportions are not normal IMG_20220702_132150.jpgIMG_20220702_132211.jpg usual badge IMG_20210701_160205.jpgIMG_20210701_160236.jpg |

Looks like a manufacturers variation to me.
You see a lot of East Lancs Regt badges without the laurel stalks. There’s an outside chance someone has neatly docked them for whatever reason, you should be able to tell for sure by looking bottom edge-on. But my money would be on the former suggestion. |

I think you are quite correct Luke there is no sign of them being clipped, it was just that feature and the relatively short center tower makes the badge appear squashed when compared to a more normal badge. I have no doubt it's a wartime rush job the scroll is split and only covers half of one of the vent holes.

Essex O/R's variation
I think Luke is correct as to it being a manufacturers variation, third row down, second from the right, an Essex badge without laurel stalks.

Hi Neil
I would go along with Luke, I have the same badge and it's a variation. I will wait in anticipation for Hoots input as he is an expert on Essex badges. Regards Terry |
