Unknown Canadian General Service badge?
Hi there,
I've just purchased some Canadian badges and one of them is a mystery... Nobody has been able to tell me what it is exactly. It looks like a variation of the Canadian General Service badge but what it's strange is that the name "CANADA" is missing. Have you ever seen this badge before? Do you know when this kind of badge was worn? Here are pictures of the badge. In the last picture, I put a well-known General Service badge to compare. 13C44A5A-CAD0-4DA1-A569-0B533E355D21_1_201_a.jpg B52AC4F5-840E-42E0-8DB5-87D98CEBCB54_1_201_a.jpg 81443746-6CC8-4BB0-BFA4-32FC95A9C11E_1_201_a.jpg Thank you for your help. That is one unusual variation of the General List cap badge. I don't know of any other example without CANADA embossed in the badge.

Spent a bit of time studying that badge and cross referencing. I am of the opinion it may be a copy / fantasy badge. The details are unusual, and lack crispness especially on the crown. The veining is very odd and not found on any other CEF era badge.

Maple Leaf Badge
Any chance it could be Police related?

Thank you for your answer and your research.
Firstly, I didn't think it was a copy because I assumed that a copy would have been made according to a known design and it would have poor details at the back. I agree some details are unusual, if you're right it would be disappointing but that was the risk I wasn't worried about it because the badge has a few features that I liked : - a curved shape like a badge which was worn a long time on a cap (maybe not easy to see in the picture). - the material looks fine and is quite "heavy" - the lugs and welds look good, like those found on original badges. |
