Default 2nd Bn Monmouthshire Regt OSD - Anyone have or have seen one of these before?

Picked this one up last summer amongst a job lot! It was in a rather sorry state, the bronze finish was non-existant and the fittings had gone south! Thanks to davec2 and his ever growing badge renovation skills it has been returned to its original glory! I have run it past 41st (Kevin) and I think it is possibly a prototype or early 2nd Bn OSD. Very different to the standard pattern but using the 1st/2nd and Brecknocks style of Dragon. I would be interested to see if anyone else has got an example!

(It may look brand spanking new, but was in a pretty poor state when I got it, I cannot find the "before" photos, but it is definately a genuine badge)

Andy,

As I said before, I'm very envious.

I tend to think it may be based more on the Glamorgan Yeo OSD dragon which was in use before 1908 when this unit came into being along with the Brecknock Battn SWB.

I agree with the prototype/early pattern theory and do not believe it to be a fantasy item.

One thought has come to mind, whilst I know the fixings were missing was there strong evidence of these being blades? If not could it have been a pouch or belt adornment?

Hwyl,
Kevin

Hello Kevin,

Happy New Year to you, hope you're well.

The missing fittings left slit like marks, ie blades, had they been rounded, I think Andy would have asked for lugs ? or posts.

Regards.

Dave.

Check out the attatched pic, it's in pretty good condition, if it's genuine
