Alan O,
My thoughts too when I saw it. I am under the impression that it was never made in A/A. I stand to be corrected. Kind regards, Ian |

K&K 2383, they say Beds Regt TA, sealed in silver anod 1/1/60. The 5th Bn resumed the Bedfordshire Regiment title in 1958 when the regular Beds and Herts battalion amalgamated with the Essex Regt to form the 3rd East anglian Regt.

There's a similar badge in AA to Bedfordshire TA scroll reads Bedfordshire. There is also a Beds and Herts TA badge but it's not similar to this one.
These appeared around the same time as the East Yorks AA similar/same characteristics . So a fake basically |

The author is not a particularly reliable source I would suggest.

Not a reliable source and full of errors where fake badges and non-a/a badges are shown.

There's certainly a number of CCF badges that aren't included and a number that are that shouldn't be . Some fall into the category that Alan mentions in another thread. Shiny new metal .
In defence of the author of the book,he supposedly used Hugh Kings notes. Also as has happened the odd example never before seen appears on the market. And the other possibility is that no examples exist anymore. |

Chris Marsh's work is a much better and well researched publication. I would recommend people use that and not the pamphlet produced by P Taylor before spending large sums on any 'rare' a/a badge. The forum has lot of excellent information in the a/a section.

The best bet is to ask me very nicely if I'll burn you a disc of all the known genuine badges. Has far more examples with images than either of the aforementioned publications .

Is this a similar situation as adding some A/A badges to a collection (eg 12th Lancers, 3rd King's Hussars, etc) that were made but not officially issued or worn? They were manufactured and therefore exist. It is up to the collector to decide if he/she wishes to add it. Personally, I do not see anything wrong with that as long as its is a bona fide badge. The unfortunate thing is that these "rare" badges command a very high price.
My thoughts on this. Kind regards, Ian |

Back in the 1970s my old aunt had a friend who, knowing I was a collector, gave her four badges to give to me that had all been worn at some time by a relative of hers who was in the TA for many years. One of these was the same as the anodized one in this thread which means they have been around for a long time. The others were the wm version of the same badge, the silver aa 5th Bedfordshire Regiment TA and the post-1961 gold and silver aa Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment TA eagle badge. I always assumed these were made for TA use prior to the introduction of the new 5th Bedfords badge. I wish I still had them now.
