Default Need help identifying medals

Hi

I am trying to get some help identifying a number of medals which belonged to my Great Grand Father.

Here is a link to the photos that I have uploaded online - http://yfrog.com/e8img0071njx

I am just looking for the name of the medal, and if possible, how he may have won it and any other information about it.

Thank you very much

Chris

Start here for the London Gazette search engine:

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/search

Try searching on his full name, and initials and surname to start with.

For example, here's the citation for his Military Cross:

SUPPLEMENT TO THE LONDON GAZETTE, 7 MARCH, 1918.

Lt. Ernest Geoffrey Weeks, Engrs. - For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When in charge of the buried cable system in the forward area, he displayed the greatest coolness and disregard of personal safety, making several reconnaissances through heavy fire, and sparing no effort to secure valuable information for his brigade headquarters. He set a splendid example to his men.

And here is the Gazette of his Military Medal:

SUPPLEMENT TO THE LONDON GAZETTE, 11 OCTOBER, 1916,

5604 Actg. Sjt. E. G. Weeks, Can. Eng.

And the Bar to his Military Medal:

SUPPLEMENT TO THE LONDON GAZETTE, 22 JANUARY, 1917

5604 A./Sjt. E. G. Weeks, Can. E.

(The awards of the Military Medals above-mentioned were published in the London Gazette dated 10th October, 1916.)

Citations for the Military Medal were not published in the London Gazette, and most do not exist in the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) records. Early Military Medal awards, ie., 1916, and possibly some from 1917, are available in the LAC and can be accessed by researchers. (I can provide a name of a researcher who can get those for you for a reasonable cost.)

And you will also find career activities (promotions, change of appointment, etc.) starting with his commissioning:

THE LONDON GAZETTE, 20 MARCH, 1917.

Divl. Sig. Cos.
The undermentioned to be temp. Lts.: —Library and Archives Canada
No. 5604 Serjt. E. G. Weeks. 20 Feb. 1917.

Search for dates throughout his career:

SUPPLEMENT TO THE LONDON GAZETTE, 1 FEBRUARY, 1945

Most Excellent Order of the British Empire
Commanders of the Military Division of the said Most Excellent Order

Brigadier Ernest Geoffrey Weeks, M.C., M.M., The Canadian Army

You should also consider ordering his service records, start with this page introducing the Library and Archives Canada database for Soldiers of the First World War and instructions for ordering files: Researching Canadian Soldiers of the First World War; Part 1: Find your Man (or Woman)

Thank you very much everyone for the responses. Just had 2 more questions im hoping I could get some help with.

Would anyone know what the last medal is, as unknown soldier thought it was a canadian forces service medal, however he already has a canadian forces service medal.

and regimentalrogue if you could send me a PM of that researcher and the amount of money I would be looking at paying to have this research done.
