Default 27 & 28 Squadron RAF

Finally decide to sort through and photograph some of my badges. I attach a photo of my collection of 27 Squadron since it became Chinooks, including the flight badges and some unofficial ones.

The other is 28 Squadron, including the flight badges worn when it was the largest squadron in the RAF equipped with about 24 Merlin helicopters. The top row are 'A' (x2) and 'B' (x4) flights, the second row reads 'C' , 'D' , 'D', 'E', Sqn Tac, Hong Kong. The bottom 2 rows include further Tac badges including those from its sales tour of the US and crown badges inc the '28' worn in 2001 rather than the traditional 'XXVIII'.

I'll add more photos as I discover more badges in my collection and acquire more.

And now the photo it wouldn't let me upload. Hope it puts this one on the right way round.

2 more recent acquisitions for 28 Squadron. The first is a Tac badge of crossed black kukris the second is the new 28 Squadron FACS (Future Aircrew Clothing System) sleeve badge incorporating both the Crown badge and the Tac badge.

I hope to acquire more FACS, Crown and Tac badges, for 27 Squadron particularly, over the next few weeks (thanks to both Terrane and Squadron Prints web sales sites, in which I have no financial interest, but probably should have!). I will photograph and display them as received.

regards,

Ian H

Some more photos.
The first is an American made rubberised patch, which the seller informs me was made recently for 27 Squadron. Anybody seen this in wear yet? Any photos?
The second shows 3 different Crown badges for 27 Squadron. Note the earliest one has the elephant in grey, presumably originally reflecting their time in India, which the Squadron then changed to green to reflect the use of Chinooks, followed by 2 different green elephants.
Finally a couple of patches produced for the 40th anniversary of the Puma helicopter which shows 27 Squadron as the Chinook/Puma Operational Conversion Unit (OCU), a role it took over from 240 OCU.

Some generic Chinook patches.
Firstly an unofficial "Battle of Bastion" badge, locally made in theatre in September 2012 when a Taliban suicide squad breached the wire at Bastion. Shows a Chinook with the phrase "When the flight line meets the front line".
Secondly 3 patches with Chinooks on. The first from crewmen on Operation "Provide Comfort" in Iraq in 1991 and other 2 commercially available during RAF operations in Afghanistan, including a reference to Operation Buzzard in 2002..
