Very nice display Ray, well done.
I do not wish to criticize but have to say for accuracy the RCN (by that I mean the pre 1968 RCN) did not wear the Admiral shoulder boards that you have shown. These are RN Admiral shoulder boards. the RCN Admiral shoulder boards looked like these: Bryan |

Amiral Nelles, RCN
These Admiral (lace) boards would not have existed in Nelle's time Ray. He retired 6 Jan '45, & was promoted from Vice Admiral to Admiral (ret'd), the only officer to achieve that rank in the pre '68 RCN.
I have seen a photo of (I think) Adm Tovey wearing the star boards as well, I think it was taken during the Bismark action. The wearing of lace for Flag Officers on shoulder boards is RN. I cannot say with any degree of acuracy when it came into being, but I am guessing 1980's period. Attached a photo of Adm Nelles when CNS, WWII. Bryan |
