Shell case markings
Can anyone with the knowledge tell me more about the markings on this shell case please? I can see 1904 which I assume is the date of manufacture but the rest has me baffled.
All thoughts appreciated. Jon |

The N under the Broad Arrow should make it Naval. C F I think is full cordite charge. Any marking above the III to the left of your picture? That's the area I would expect to see details of weight. Regards, Paul.

The Calibre should be stamped in above the Mk.III at the top.
CF = Charge Filled The RL is the manufacturer - Royal Laboratories, the rest are acceptance stamps apart from the date marks. The N is part of the acceptance mark and isnt an N that denotes Naval use, which would be bigger I feel. Whats the diameter of the top? regards

Could be a 1 pdr case. I have just found I have a 6 pdr cartridge with III on it so may be bigger. Regards, Paul.
