G'day Mick

l also have 2 small / collar sized bullion embroidered 11th H badges, they are slightly different to the ones shown above, mine are about 40mm high but a lot of that is down to how the backing fabric is cut. I will scan them and send them through to you. There was one similar to mine for sale on one of the sites, I will see if I can find them and let you know.

Regards

Phil.

Mick and Members of the forum,

I would humbly like to apologise for my initial reply to Micks's initial post.

On further research and a preponderance of evidence from more learned members, my statement on whether the 11th Hussars Officers wore a badge on their beret is on the whole incorrect. The badge was worn by those 11th Hussars attached to the Royal Armoured Corps Training Regiments as they were required to wear the badge on the beret. As a general rule the badge was not worn as stated by others as the beret was sufficiently recognisable without further embellishment.

I do recall seeing one with a bullion badge in a published book on militaria. This may have been a tailors sample or a suggestion for future implementation post war, possibly in the 1950's.

I, in haste made an incorrect assumption that the same goes for all. Please accept my apology, I stand corrected.

Regards,
Clay

Default 11H Bullion badges

In addition to wear as collar badges and NCO mess kit arm badges, the small embroidered badge was also worn on officer's crimson side hats.

Hello

Please could you confirm I have understood this correctly?

The O/R's embroidered collar badge was also worn on NCO's Mess Dress, but not on any head dress?

The Officers embroidered collars, on the other hand, were also worn on the Officers Crimson side cap, but not on any other headdress.

I am also lead to believe the might have been a crimson side cap available to O/R's as a private purchase? if so, do you know which badge was worn on that?

Thank you
Rob

Hi Griff

Is that cap Officers or O/R's?

Thanks for posting the image.

I saw that beret too. The badge certainly appears to have been worn on the beret for a long time.

Hello Clay

Well done, thanks for posting the link.

I agree with CB the whole thing looks worn & contemporary.

What I have been looking for is an image of an Officer wearing it, since you mentioned RAC Training Regt's, but no joy as yet. However, I will post it if I do.

Rob

It is my understanding that this size was worn both on the collar and the FS cap. This is mine, reputedly off an FS cap.

Hi, I think the reason they had to wear a badge whilst training with the RAC was that they were wearing black berets not their normal beret. Certainly I can't see any difference in the colours of the berets, best wishes Mike
