old COTC badge
Can anyone give me information on this gilt-bronze KC Canadian Offs Trg Corps cap badge? It forms part of a large frame of mainly CEF badges. Can't seem to find this version anywhere.

University of Alberta (Edmonton) COTC. Yours is the later pattern badge, authourized in 1937. The G.O. describes these badges for officers & OR's as being bronze, but brass ones seem to be more common.
The first pattern badge (1914 - 1937ish) looks very similar to this, but would be more 'in synch' with a CEF collection. |

Thanks, Doug.
Actually, it could well be a brass alloy, especially as seen at the back - the proper identification of the diversity of metal finishes to Canadian badges is an enigma, and online photos many times give a totally different indication. There is a maker's mark in two lines: 'W SCULLY LTD / E. MONTREAL' (at least there appears to be the letter E or F before Montreal). GTB |
