This is a good one.
The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada cap badge, M109 was not authorized in General Orders. The authorized badge was the one with Leopold's coronet and cypher. The Seaforths wore the M109 which was a gift from the Imperial Seaforths.
My Pictou badge is marked Scully, which would be consistent with a Canadian authorized and produced badge.

Surely the thousands of Seaforth highlanders weren't using Pictou badges unlawfully during WW2. It's very unusually to see a picture with the UK type (org. Seaforth)badge. What did they wear before they got the coronet Phil.

RH Roy's book shows the regiment wearing the 72nd CEF pattern badge into the 1920s.
Wartime deviations from General Orders include the 8th Hussars and the 8th Recce.
