Tactical recognition flash (TRF) is the official British military term for a coloured patch worn on the Right Arm of combat clothing by members of the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.
A TRF serves to quickly identify the regiment or corps of the wearer, in the absence of a cap badge. It is similar to, but distinct from, the DZ Flashes worn by members of Airborne Forces. TRFs should not be confused with formation signs or insignia, which are used to denote the formation (usually brigade or division or a higher headquarters) and are worn in addition to TRFs by a member of any regiment or corps serving in that formation. They are worn on the Left Arm with Union Jack Flash. Most pictures show Parant Regiment/Corps, i.e. Para, RA, RE, RLC RAF DZ/TRF's being worn on Right Arm never seen SFSG patch being worn Last edited by Mike_2817; 09-06-20 at 12:50 PM. |

SFSG TRF
1 Para SFSG wear their parachute wings and DZ flash on the right arm and the SFSG flash on the left arm.

As Andy says, on the rare occasions when they wear them, on the left arm.
There were some media photos of 1Para lads at one of the Falklands commemorations (down South) wearing them on their para smocks a few years back but that's the only time I've seen them worn in public. |
