Default The United states of the Ionian Islands.

The United states of the Ionian Islands. A British "Protectorate" from 1815 to 1864. I have a small (tiny) 1 Lepton coin dated 1849. They even had postage stamps with a youthful looking Queen Victoria.

I can find no reference to any form of Police, Gendarmerie, etc. Maybe it was just a military presence that acted as a form of paramilitary and if so, I wonder which regiment(s)?

I realize that the UK Police Act didn't come into effect until 1856 and 1857, but there were Police forces in the UK before this time. I understand Glasgow had a sort of police force around 1800 and London 1829.

All the best,

Andrew
