House clearance buy.
Just bought a load of Duke of Westminster buttons by various makers including Gaunt (2 different back stampings) some stamped 'Special Quality', Buttons Ltd., Q.M.Stores, Aldershot stamped and 1 C.Pitt & Co. There are also what I assume to be dress buttons with the elephant on a small brass button stamped Gaunt attached to another plain button inscribed '33'. These are stamped 'Superior Quality'. There is also a pair made into clip on earrings. These came with 2 sets of collar dogs, one of which I fondly imagine is an Officer's pair with the silver howdah, a West Riding badge and a Yorkshire badge withslider by Gaunt which has been enamelled in the sweetheart manner. Any ideas about these?

I also have a similar pair of officers collars to the Dukes and they have a two part construction and I also think that the Howdah may well be silver. I will try and post a picture of them for you.

The badges and buttons are not Duke of Westminster's but Duke of Wellington's Regiment. The badge which appears to have been enamelled is in fact an Officers Number 1 and Number 2 dress cap badge, worn originally by the Yorkshire Brigade (between 1958 and 1970) of which the DWR was part. Between 1970 and 1993, this cp badge was worn by officers of the Yorkshire Volunteers. The collar badges with the silver Howdah are officers pattern although they are, I think, silvered rather than silver. OC14 |

The badges and buttons are not Duke of Westminster's but Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Yes, sorry. Silly mistake. Here are some other pics of the howdahs and the enamelled badge stamped Gaunt..,
