WRAC Cap Badge Questions
Gentlemen, I need your help again please. To fill in my ATS/FANY collection I am looking at adding a couple of WRAC cap badges (KC and QCC). In viewing several they seem to have JR Gaunt B'HAM engraved on the slider in large block letters, and one I saw had AMMO UK on the slider. Are these good, or fakes? I am surprised if they are fakes because as I understand it they are still wearing them. But want to be sure.
Thank you, Terry |

WRAC badge hasn't been worn since circa 1992 when all WRAC personnel were absorbed into their parent regiments and corps. I have a 100% genuine King's crown bimetal badge surplus if it's of any interest at £8 including postage. (Top right in these images - top left is a King's crown officers WRAC silver/gilt, Gaunt marked priced at £10) regards Paul L |

Badges with AMMO UK on the slider were made largely for the collectors market although some were sold through unit PRI (President of the Regimental Institute) shops and were worn by serving personnel in preference to the staybrite anodised aluminium issued version.
The WRAC were dispersed to other cap badges from 1992 and the WRAC badge ceased to be worn. Tim

The WRAC ended when the AGC was formed in 1991/2. Ammo UK was about later than that.
The Bham mark would be OK for a/a badges but a period bimetal should be the London one. |

I wasn't saying that they did not make them just that they were not worn in my experience.

AMMO UK also supplied some of the badges for the Regimental Cap Badge Collection marketed in monthly instalments by Military Mailwise in four different issues from the early 1990s.
The flyer is for the third issue covering post 'Options for Change' badges. Tim

WRAC (as i'm pretty sure you will know) wore a "Beech Brown" "Teardrop" badge backing on the rifle green beret, I think it's meant to represent that (but the shade is way too light) PL |

Thank you gentlemen. I was not aware they were no longer around. It also sounds like I want to seek a QC badge without the AMMO UK on the slider. What about the JR GAUNT B'HAM?
