Hi all, I am hoping that this badge hasn’t been visited by fakers!

The badge is heavy I have photographed it as found, noticed black stains (Silver?) on the white paper so decided to give a gentle wash in soapy water.

What are your thoughts on this badge please? Many thanks in advance Billy (hoping it is WW1), well and real! Goes without saying that!

I can not say anything about the quality or being a fake, but as far as I know, this design was from way after WW1.

It appears to be a modern cast copy with very poor detail.

Originals are excellent quality.

Billy,

I can't comment on whether its a repro. or not, but I can tell you that their cap badge during WWI was a brass general service badge (royal coat of arms). The current badge design (as your example) was adopted several years later. Apart from the hallmarked silver badge which was awarded to volunteers in 1926 and who served during the Great War (on the islands), there have been no issues of "silver" cap badges.

Dave.

Thanks Henk, Simon, and Dave, the quality is sadly not there on front detail! I was hoping, so many thanks for the views and confirmation of what I sort of knew! I would like a Silver one to turn up! Missed out on a Hallmarked version last year, it will go on my Restrike/Copy board, and can only wish!!!

Hi Billy,

For comparison, here are 2 images of the Falkland Islands badges from my collection. Both are stamped.
