Default HELP! Royal Scots Officers HP Valuation and Condition

Hello All,

I have been offered an Officers home service helmet plate to "The Lothian Regiment" The Royal Scots. As this is not my primary interest or the focus of my collecting, I want to ask members of the Forum for help in assessing it's condition and determining what a fair and realistic price would be for the helmet plate. I have included pictures of the front and rear of the helmet plate for evaluation. To my untrained eye, It appears that most of the fire gild finish is worn away. I would welcome any and all suggestions as to its condition and pricing!

Thank you all in advance for your very generous help.

Cheers,

David

Greetings David.

Firstly, what a cracking badge; as far as I'm concerned, an original item; however, it appears that the top lug has been re-soldered somewhat clumsily with a fair amount of solder around the lug.

As to value and scarcity, I don't know, but I will do a bit of research and see what transpires.

Regards.

Brian

Greetings again.

A very quick search unearthed the following:

https://www.olympiaauctions.com/sale.../view-lot/334/

I'll see what else I can find.

Regards.

Hi Brian,

Thank you so much for your very quick response... as I look at the reverse side of the plate, I can see what you are referring to, the soldering looks a bit heavy handed. What is your opinion of the front side of the plate... is it just the pictures or do you think most of the gilt finish has worn away and especially when compared with the image of the plate in the link you provided... the enamel looks to be undamaged.

Thanks again and will look forward to what else you might discover in this regard!

Very best,

David
