Hello Chay, I think the main way of telling a good badge with these is if the bottom of the spear below the title scroll is thiner than that above the scroll as it should be the same all the way up
The spear, can't make out either way on your pic, if you put up another someone in the know will I'm sure let you know. Gerard

I think to much acid to try and age it.
Not a good one!

Hello again Chay, just had a better look at your badge now and the base of the spear seems the same thickness ? But tend to agree with the other comments that it's an odd looking one and think I'd look for a better example showing all the good signs

Good evening gentlemen
Thankyou for the ideas , I bought the badgfe yesterday and I could return it if needed but it wasn't expensive , I don't mind if it is a bit strange looking some people may say that about me , I just wonder if there is a chance it is original , or does it look like a textbook fake, Here are a few more pics showing another of my Officers cap badgfes with lumpy slider and I wonder are they similar Regards Chay |

I'd be very surprised if your RE badge is an officers, it should come with voidings between the garter and wreath, blades or lugs instead of a slider and usually cast and of better quality. Don't know what happened to the RECCE slider, but otherwise it looks fine to me.

The George V cypher suggests he would have been serving since before 1936?

I wore a brass/wm R.Signals cap badge in the 80's when it wasn't an issued badge, and my old man never bothered changing his RCT badge for anRLC one after options for change. The differences in cypher is so minute, am sure he would have got away with it, if so desired. Maybe the badge had been worn by a relative? Cheers, Andy C

I have known soldiers to wear outdated and incorrect badges too,
At Catteric I remember an instructor wearing a white metal kings crown KOSB badge this would have been 1997. re the recce badge I dont think the theory re the thinner spear below scroll is solid, I have seen some with provenance and good solder etc with a slightly thinner spear base ,personaly I think some are just a manufacturer variation Kev |

Hello Chay,
After looking at these photos, I have to say that I really don't like either badge, the Recce lacks any fine detail and does not look good on it's reverse and that is before you start to look at that "classic" slider. But, neither the Recce or RE are rare badges. Regards Frank Quote:
