Default Need Help 16th Air Assault Army Air Corp Jacket

Hi Team

I would like the forum's input on this patched Jacket.

Im unsure on how to describe the proper military use of "patches" on this jacket, if that makes sense.

I need to be educated!!

cheers

Phill

Thanks Team

If I read this correctly.

Individual is with the 9th AAC Regt, Air Crew (Rotary Aircraft) serving in 16th AA Bde Parachute and Commando trained.

How do you know individual is 9th AAC and datable 2004-2011?

Also would said individual be from or part of a squadron.

I think I might of found the answer?

Just checking Wiki

I wondered if there was an OP TELIC (2003-2009) connection ?

16 Air Assault Brigade , including 9 Regiment ACC were involved from the start.

Photo shows insignia worn by "a ground crewman and signaller with 663 Squadron, 3 Regiment Army Air Corps (attached to 9 Regiment AAC)."

Jerry pointed out the 9 Regiment ACC TRF and I think the dating is based on the contract number on the combat jacket.

It is not 2003 as everyone on TELIC 1 and 2 wore green Eagles wiith the exception of Brigadier Jacko whose shirts had had the maroon ones on. I always assumed this was the tailors shop and/or his house Cpl's oversight in not specifying the green one. By 2011 everyone on HERRICK was in MTP shirts. In 2011 the commando dagger had been replaced by Army Commando titles.

So you can safely date it from 2004-2010.

Much appreciated for all the input guys.

Every now and again I like to add a "unique" patched uniform to my GWOT OEF/OIF collection to show how "patches" were worn.

Thanks again guys if there is anymore you can add would be appreiated.

cheers

Phill

The DZ flash under the para wings was unique to 9 Regt AAC while in 16 Air Assault Brigade. Although it was in generic AAC colours, as used by the earlier 664 (Para) Sqn AAC in 16 Para Bde in the 1960-70s, the other two regiments (3 and 4) in 16 Air Assault Brigade had their own specific and unique DZ flashes while in the Brigade from 1999 to 2015.

I would (hesitantly) go 2005-2011 not 2004.

Desert cam wings and the screaming chicken were pretty uncommon in my expereince until then.

I'd also raise a warning flag. Aircrew had their own version of the CS95 shirt in both desert and standard DPM. This is not it.

The site you linked shows all the AAC Squadrons involved in OP Telic :

672 Squadron Army Air Corps : February 2008 to June 2008
