Default Royal Scots Greys A/A Badges

Looking for some information please. I have attached photos of the two badges in my collection. I believe that there is a third pattern. If this is so I would be grateful if anyone has a photo of the third anodised aluminium pattern. It is not easy when looking through the dealers photos on websites to distinguish the differences.

Thanks

Ian

Ian ,there is definately a wide winged version that is lugged. This maybe the pattern you refer to.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your reply. Both of my badges are slidered. Left one is J R Gaunt, London and the right hand one is Firmin, London. According to Peter Taylor's book there are three versions with different wing designs. Is the lugged wide winged version the same as any of my two but with lugs instead of slider?

Thanks,

Ian

The lugged is the same pattern as the first one, wide winged, it's believed to be for the pipers in the Glengarry.
I had one, sold it a while ago.

Chris,
Thank you for your reply. I suppose the lugged version is not easily available. I will keep an eye out for one.
Best regards,
Ian

Attached my RSG's set.

There are 2 basic designs, straight wing and wide wing. The wide wing version is made by Gaunt, with both London & Bham sliders and a lugged piper's version.

The straight version has 2 different dies. One used by Smith & Wright and Firmin and a different die again used by Gaunt. The difference is easily seen on the wing feather detail. Additionally, the Gaunt straight wing example, does appear generally slightly smaller in size.

So 2 versions with 3 separate dies. See pics.

Hope that isnt confusing? I do have one or two spares but not a lugged Gaunt example.

Hi Bess,
Thank you for the photos and explanation.

All the responders to my query have been a tremendous help. Having the two different wing shape designs all I need is the lugged piper's version. Another one to add to my Wants List.

Best regards and thank you all,

Ian
