I served with them for a time (143 Plant Sqn) . The green trf didnt appear to fairly recently. I dont recall seeing the maggot on red backing either. The black backing was in common use,jumpers,No2s,No1s ,left arm only. Prior to CS95 being introduced, all non commissioned ranks wore the olive green rank slides on the shirt and jumper epaulettes. No rank on it ,just RMonRE in blue .

A great little display, nice badges the RMRE's.
A couple of questions if I may?
What is the top middle badge?
What is the large GM? Grenade, S/NCO's arm Badge?
And finally, is that a Canadian RE's at the bottom middle, what is the significance of this badge to the RMRE's please?
Many thanks
Chris

I also served with them for a short time in the late seventies at Malpas in Newport. I'm also interested to know what the top middle badge is.

Afternoon all.

Thanks for all the comments.

The large ER badge is an officers pouch badge.

The large grenade is cap/hat badge.

The Canadian RE badge is there as (something like twin towns) where both units worked together.

Also some paperwork that maybe of interest to those who served with the unit.

Ta

Jonathan.

I have displayed these badges as indicating Royal Engineers Qualified Instructor.

I was told that apparently the large gm grenade was a manufacturer's error. However, it also exists in gold anodised with a shaped brass backing plate?

Do we know what form of headdress the large grenade was worn on please?

Tim

Hi Mark,
The Malpas TA centre has gone, with a new housing estate put on there in late 80s.
Cheers,
Dave

That's a shame Eddie, I had a good time there. I left Newport in about 1980 having completed an engineering/technology course at Nash College. I think that's still there at least.
