Thanks for that EY! I hadn't thought to mark and cut the carboard and the felt after covering the cardboard. Sounds like a very workable way to go about it! believe that will be my approach

Attachment 266151Tend to get my box frames from the Range. I do the pencil marks on the back board where i'm going to put the badges. I make holes for the badges on the back board. I use felt. I have now found you can get pre glued felt that works very well. Before i put the felt on i put the pencil lines on the where the felt will join. When the board has the felt colours on, i then make tiny holes with a craft knife for the badges to slot into the board. The stems of the badges are glued the the back of the back board. Pictures and cloth badges are directly glued to the felt.

My last board i put a picture mount as the bottom stripe of the regimental colours. The maroon and yellow are felt. This is my RDG frame and i'm quite pleased how it went.

Most of my frames tend to be Regimental family trees.

I too mount my cloth items without glue or tape to preserve them. That's one advantage of Riker cases. But in wall mounted displays I might sew them in he corners to mount them. I try to not even collect badges that have glue or tape residue on he backs and if they do, I always try to remove it if I can without harming the patch.

Agree if you have a very valuable wire or cloth badge. But as mine tend not to be, i have no problems using glue. My thinking is that my badges will always be in their frames once made.

No worry Restrike. Your frames truly look awesome, and I love the idea of having the unit colors as the background. I borrowed that for one of mine and am planning it for a few others - NAFFI and some school badges I have. Possibly more.
