ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS MYSTERY PLEASE ?
I have acquired the RNVR Shoulder boards below and am mystified to see US Buttons on them - does any one have any ideas what this may relate to please?
To me - Sub Lieutenant RNVR with Special Branch? or Engineer connections Any thoughts very much appreciated Opinions also sought on whether if US buttons appear spurious, would it be in order for me to remove them and replace with RN? I do not normally mess with things so would tend to leave them, although I would like to use them in another representative display Regards Mike |

They are US Army buttons and not even shoulder board buttons so I think they have been placed there in error by someone. If there was nay connection to the US I would expect at least to have seen US Navy buttons

The green backing is for an electrical officer or radio officer, not sure which as the shade should be slightly different if I remember correctly.

Hi Mike
I've thought about this for a while. Can you confirm,if you look at the reverse is one button sewn to the board? The buttons look like they were deliberately affixed to the boards. I would go the opposite way and prove these are spurious before tampering with it. A you know there would have been a lot of cross polination of American and British servicemen and women for liason duties and these have a funny way of manifesting itself with insignia. I came across a post on another forum of an example of a British officer(Italy) jacket, with an American patch underneath his serving British Formation sign and cloth title and both sleeves were patched acordingly. The son had then mentioned his father was a liason officer between both units and he was alowed to use the US shoulder patchs by both commands, with the Americans insisting he should, due to his role. We probaly will never know about your one but........ Phill |
