Info on Militia badge sought
Hi all,
I have seen a Glengarry badge to Local Companies 'Militia' on Regimental Badges site. I wondered if anyone could help by telling me who would of worn this and when. Thanks in advance Paul

Local Militia Companies
I have these listed as coming from New Zealand.
Cannot remember where I got the info from, but it's worth asking in the NZ section for a positive ID, one way or the other. The long gone Digger History website comes up in my brain as a possibility. But that site was a minefield of duff information. Alan

Thanks Alan,
I found another thread that said it could be for numerous units i.e. Undesignated Militia, Australian convict convoy and a couple of other Colonial uses which if you throw in NZ it could of been a General Issue badge to Colonial Militia I guess? Paul

Hi All,
I presume the badge mentioned in the first post is the 8-pointed star, QVC in centre, LOCAL COMPANIES on circlet. This badge was worn by the Royal New Zealand Fencible Corps, formed in 1847 from military pensioners who had formerly served in the British Army. At their peak they numbered 721 men. Corps was disbanded in 1858. Cheers, Tinto
