Default RAF wing - bullion wire

This wing looks to me as if it was privately manufactured. It has clearly seen better days. Has anyone seen something similar ?
Any idea as to roughly when it was manufactured and where ?
I have no provenance sadly , so have to try and make some assumptions .
Can anyone help ?
Thanks
Mike

Thanks, Steve.
I think that you are right.
I know that badges were made locally in Egypt and East Africa because official badges weren't always available. Some of the badges that I have seen are pretty "rough". Interestingly I have never seen any "field made "German badges and insignia. This is surprising given that they must have faced similar supply constraints on occasions.

Lovely old badge, a very interesting and unusual shape too, I like it very much.

Honestly, I don't like the wing. To me it looks like a reproduction

I agree with Mike. This looks like a modern fake/copy to me also.

Best regards,
David
