It was a cartoonist's joke at the time (Jon - The Two Types) that BTA could not/would not give up their Eighth Army ways. Hence the KD. Mike

By means of a parallel, in the film The Third Man (which got its uniform details right) Trevor Howard's character Major Calloway is a 7th Hussar, wearing Royal Armoured Corps shoulder titles - and the "8th Army" style formation sign, not/not the ACA version. Yet, when he drives away from Holly Martens at the end the jeep has an ACA badge painted on it...
I think that Major Calloway (Trevor Howard) wore the cap badge of the Life Guards?

In that (publicity?) shot, yes. But on film definitely a Hussars badge.

There should be some definitive images in the Third Man Museum in Vienna.

Thanks for the reply Mike - I will get down to the 3rd Man museum and take some pics when can. Some time ago I bought three of the US MP liners from a Major Howells who was posted there. He must have been there for quite a while as there are three different battalion numbers on them.

I had the interesting experience of attending a dinner for the surviving members of the British RMPs from the International Patrol at the Embassy some time back. I remember one chap I talked to had lost his eye arresting a drunken British squaddie. I suspect he's passed away now. Very nice chap.
