Default Commonwealth War Graves Alluminium Plaques

There have been a variety of these sold on ebay recently, I as lucky to win this one, I assume the device is the same size as the ones on the gravestones (13inches accross the circle)?

I wonder if they are the original patterns or perhaps something to do with the manufacture of the grave stone?

Hi rob , I think you will find this goes in a machine that copies it onto a headstone. So the stonemason sets out the badge, and words below, than a arm follows the design, and the engraver follows the arm.A bit like a sketch-a-graph.

Thank you, I have often wondered how the grave stones were made

I think that originally the badge design was "traced" onto the gravestone .

The IWM has a set of design drawings (possibly taken for a metal 'master') which are titled " Designs for Regimental Badges for use on Grave Stones in War Cemeteries."

Between July and August he has sold 16 different ones , described as "Wall/building plaques" :

Royal Welch Fusiliers aluminium building plaque 16" by 16" approx, needs a polish with aluminium polish, rare as can be, when I looked for one I had to ask a military museum what it was and they told me that it was a 1939/40 second world war building plaque or building medallion used on HQ buildings and officers messes in India and Burma.
