Badges or Brade

Hi I am totally new to this and have set myself a little mission....
I live in a small village in Staffordshire and a group of residents last year installed by public subscription a first public war memorial on the village Green in the heart of our community.
Each year we plan to hold a Remembrance service and put up a small display based on the information we have on those listed on our roll of honour. I want to put together a display of cap/shoulder badges of all the regiments of the service men and hopefully someone here can help me identify the correct ones relevant to the said regiment.
As I say I am new to this so forgive my ignorance...
I have traced a family member of a Seaman who lost his life aboard HMS Birdlip a Royal Naval Patrol armed Trawler off the coast of West Africa in WW2- they have now gave me a picture of Robert to add to our records and my question is: his picture shows him wearing his naval uniform with a HMS brade on his hat, would they also have a royal naval patrol badge ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
