Default Best Known Canadian General of 2WW.

This photo is of the best known general who commanded in Italy and the North West campaign. He was well-liked by his mentor Monty.

Not so by his men. Simonds was perhaps Canada's most talented and capable general of WW2, but his relationship with the troops was less than ideal.

Bill, I agree. But you could include in the "good" generals, Matthews of 2nd Div.,Hoffmeister of 5th Arm'd Div., Dan Spry of 3rd Div.

I guess it's easy to sit back and be an arm chair general 65-70 years later, but he wasn't well liked at all by the troops & had a great opinion of himself Which may not be all that bad,I guess you could call it confidence but made his boo-boo at Verriers Ridge when he wouldn't listen to the Commander of the Black Watch & as a result they got slaughtered.
