Default Mix of two insignias. Comments please.

Hello all. While browsing a website dedicated to the South Saskatchewan Regt. I came upon this photograph of an unknown soldier wearing two different badges. First, he's wearing a black beret and the badge of the 12 Manitoba Dragoons and, an early pattern shoulder title to the RCASC (yellow letters on blue with a white border).BTW, he's missing his CVSM ribbon. All comments are welcome. (you can click on the photo to enlarge)

Perhaps wearing someone else's cap just for the photograph. There was a lot of that done.
I didn't know they wore that white bordered title during WW2. Looks like it may be canvas too.

Nice photo. A rather informal portrait as his BD collar is open but is not wearing a collared shirt & tie. No CVSM probably because it hadn't been awarded yet. My guess is this fellow would be RCASC attached to the MB Dragoons, maybe a cook or a truck driver? I have photos of the 1CACR cooks in the field, they wear the black beret and unit cap badge, but the part 1 & 2 orders indicate them as RCASC personnel "attached" and holding the rank of "private" not "trooper". my two cents.

All we can say for sure is that the RSM was not in the studio when this photo was taken. Hard to say if the formation patch is of one of the Canadian Commands or if it is an overseas Corps/Army/Bde patch.

This is most likely a portrait done for the folks/girl back home and this guy took some liberties with his Dress. If this were done today the black beret woud be replaced by a beret in maroon or tan and no doubt there would be a set (or two) of jump wings.

Reminds me of some of the made-up cadet uniforms I have seen at summer camps.
