As has been discussed before there are a number of all GM badges that do not appear on official lists. Many, to be sure, are fakes (or eg Canadian !), but some appear to be genuine and other reasons for their existence must be sought. Some, like the Gaunt Notts & Derby appear to be pre war TF
(next time Im at Kew I'll try to find further info on AVC badges) |

Does anyone else have an all GM AVC they could post images of?
G’day Andy Here are some pictures of my all brass AVC I’ve always been of the opinion it was 100% original. Cheers John |

Wasn't the ADC formed after the War (1919 IIRC)? That being the case, I would expect any non-pierced versions would be highly suspect.

Quote:
Following the mistakes from the Boer War there was huge pressure for the reform of the Army Veterinary Service from all quarters including the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, politicians and the general public. In 1903 a Warrant created an Army Veterinary Corps of NCOs and men employed in veterinary duties and in 1906 it combined with the Army Veterinary Department to become recognisable as the RAVC of today. In 1907, Major General Sir Frederick Smith became Director General and was dedicated to improving the efficiency of the AVC, reorganising the territorial force and introducing modern veterinary equipment ." On 27 November 1918 King George V conferred the Royal prefix to the Corps in recognition of the work of the AVC, which then became RAVC and a change of badge. So AVC definately formed before the First World War and not 1919! Best regards - Andy |
