Default London "Imperial" Yeomanry Title

Not so much, particularly as the IY had ceased to exist long before this title was struck. One hopes the error was on the part of endici (still learning) rather than Wallis and Wallis.

Rather, the cut down "T" (as I'm sure most here know), was an affectation of some First Line TF formations. In many ways a very desirable badge, but north of 74 quid? Even trusting the provenance, this is surprising.

I think the price realised is a result of a few factors. Endici has an army of buyers who buy blindly becasue it's 'him', the fact it's a Walter Lambert badge and it's come from W & W. Those three things would convince a lot of people they're buying a rare, genuine item. Maybe W&W were only selling the item as it was described to them, who knows, but there have been quite a few errors in descriptions in the recently sales so maybe they've been a bit overwhelmed with the quantity.

Back to the badge as you say the pattern had long ceased, the plain LONDON was introduced some time during WW1. I'm not too keen on these adapted titles even if they were carried out regimentally. I fear that good ones are likely to be butchered to make them into rarer versions once the prices start creeping up.

I wonder what Walter would have thought of the description ?

I tend to be very circumspect with them as well. Being very keen on S/Ts, my inclination should be to prize them. Instead, I personally don't give them much greater value than their unaltered brethren and have very few in my collection. As you note, it's too easy to make the alteration on a genuine item, especially if it's a fairly common title. I thought about taking a run at this one, but for nowhere near that money!

In the interests of disclosure, I've won quite a few items from endici, including a number from the Lambert collection. I know some don't like the approach, but his "re-auctioning" is a boon for those of us who can't attend UK auctions. That said, I apply due diligence and when in doubt, I don't bid!

Me too, I've given up trying to win the bulk lots for the sake of one or two items I'd like to keep. I've had some really nice items including titles from him.
