NZ Land Wars buttons
Here are some buttons i found last week.
The dirt had been moved twice by a digger and i came at the right timas as the digger had just finished scrapping the dirt flat. These are from the New Zealand wars. 150 years ago 2x 40th of foot regiment 2x 12th of foot regiment 2x 70th of foot regiment The Volunteers rifle was sent to me found new Zealand And the 1st Wellington rifles Battalion found in Wellington |

Yes, very nice to see.
Particularly liked the 'local' button for the 1st Wellington Rifle Battalion. Corbett gives an 1898 date for this one (I assume date of introduction), so a bit later than the others (pre 1881, although they may well have been used for some years after they were officially replaced, especially being in far off New Zealand!). Some nice little "pieces of history" there!
I can tell you when the British Regts, above, served in NZ if you don't already know? David PS.... I forgot to mention - all the British buttons above almost certainly are pre 1866. British troops were withdrawn from NZ after the end of the main hostilities, except 18th Royal Irish who remained for a while after. Internal security then left in hands of local NZ units. As mentioned above I can probably provide more specific details relating to the above three regts from my records, but no point telling you what you already know!
