Victorian Donegal Militia Glengarry Cap Badge

One is listed at £300, the other at £15. I know which one I prefer but is the gold one genuine?

I am always suspicious of brass (or GM) Donegal Militia glengarry badges no matter who sells them. The RACD ledger clearly states the sealed pattern is in white metal in the notification of sealing in WO 359-2-411.

As regards being genuine it would be good to see images of the back and what is the metal of the left hand sample, it looks WM to me but I am not sure. If both are brass I would say they are both likely fake.

The badge on the left is by a well known eBay seller specialising in cast copies. It is openly sold as a copy in the listing description.

As John says the SP states this badge should be in Wm, however, I’ve never seen a Wm example beyond the obvious cast copies.

They both look fake to me, the left badge is particularily poor with modern loops and very poor reverse detail. I am not all certain that the loops on the right badge are correct and of course being brass (which would be very unusual for a militia regiment unless dressed as rifles where blackened brass would be the norm) makes me think it is fake also.

I certainly would not spend 300 for any of them
