Default Good or bad - Somerset Light Infantry

Hi all,

This badge will be most likely for a sale. Just wanted to make sure it's a good one. Also stamp on the slider.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I for one have never seen anything like it before. It appears to be the small beret size as worn in the ww2 era and later.
It is a cast badge, not die struck, which is not typical of British made badges. It's construction is not typical of Indian made cast badges either.

Default Somerset Light Infantry

This is a strange badge that does not tick all the boxes, Somerset Light Infantry were based in India prior to WWII, the badge changed from the normal size badge to the smaller size c1935, not sure why and this is often described as a beret badge which is partially true as this size badge was worn in the beret post WWII.
Looking through my files I see I have a "sandcast" version and this may well be a locally made version to fulfill demands for the change of size.

A collar dog would pass as a beret -sized badge, not quite the same but it'd do rather than have ugly cast badges run off.
Having said that, the collar badges of "similar' design to the beret badge were in gilding metal not being white metal until around 1950.

It may well be an Indian made badge, but it is atypical with that hollow back and unusual slider.
