Default Bradford Tramway Corporation not VTC

I don’t think this is a Bradford VTC collar rather a Bradford Tram Corporation collar after reading an old thread from Alan but over to the masters of ID please, cheers Dean

Indeed Mike - The lack of collars on your VTC photograph Alan pushed me towards Tramway but how widespread are collars for VTCs - the cap badge hasn’t shown up regularly let alone if there were collars as a fanciful thought.

Is it possible that it is a Tramways badge but a pre 1907 version ?

Quote:
probably taken soon after 1907 when Bradford was granted 'ram and goat' supporters to its arms. Note the new municipal cap and collar badges (with the new supporters) .
The shield shape is very similar.

Your badge is a Victorian Bradford City Police collar badge. When trying to ID badges like this try thinking outside the box!
See appended photo of a Bradford Police Inspector.

Sorry for being a pain (am in 'research' mode ) but I have a couple of questions.

There were 2 versions of the Bradford coat of arms :
Quote:
The arms were officially granted on October 18, 1847, supporters granted on December 31, 1907.
When did the Bradford City Police start using the badge with the 'supporters' ?

The attached photo from the Tramways site "appears" to show the post 1907 collars , is it possible that the Bradford Corporation/Municipality used the same collars (perhaps in different metals) for other employees ?

The Bradford City Police would have changed their badges in line with the granting of supporters for the City Arms. That said, I can find no evidence that the police adopted an update collar badge (with supporters) post 1907. Photographs taken in the 20's through to 1974 show no collar badges (other than numbers) being worn.

Most local authorities employed uniformed staff of various grades in different departments and it follows that their uniforms were often adorned with furnishings (badges etc.) which reflected their municipal pride. My interest is, in the main, police related so I don't know the answer to the last question you pose.

Dave.
