Princess Alexandra's Cypher and the Dannenbrog Cross
I have been looking at the buttons of the Green Howards, Alexandria Princess of Wales's Own Yorksire Regiment, but this probably applies to their badges as well. There appear to be two versions of the combined Cypher and Danish Cross.
In the case of the buttons according to Riply the flat topped version was used until 1903, and then the more pointy topped version was used until 1951 when it reverted to the earlier type with the introduction of insignia marked "Green Howards". Princess Alexandria became Queen in 1902 after the death of Queen Victoria which I assume caused the first change, but I have to wonder why the reversion happened? Queen Alexandra ceased to be Queen in 1910 when her husband King Edward VII died, and she died in 1925? Rob |

Rob,
interestingly, I was looking at a typewriter written set of notes on the Notes on Minor Variations on Line Regiment Buttons. Someone sent it to me a few years ago (I can't remember whom) and I do not know who it was written by. It states that the button also was made without the 1875. Hi Chris,
I wonder if it was a medium button?, sometimes smaller script is left out on scrolls and you start to wonder if they are TA Bn's or if was just too small to include. Rob |
