I'm still a little confused with the badges of London Guards.
Are the normal Guards cap stars worn now? Or is the cap star in the OP worn, or all?? Do they have LONDON GUARDS cloth shoulder titles on No 2's? Chris |

“1st Battalion London Guards are the Army Reserve for the Guards Division. It provides highly trained infantry soldiers to reinforce the five regiments of the Foot Guards on operations all over the world. The battalion offers a range of capabilities with specialisms in both individual and support weapons.” “As a light infantry regiment, the Londons operate on foot, carrying out skirmishes and undertaking reconnaissance alongside their comrades in the Foot Guards.” I believe the Companies wear the cap badges and cloth shoulder titles of the four affiliated Guards regiments, but not the Welsh Guards? Thank you Tim and Toby.
So the badge in the OP is no longer worn by any of the London Guards? Chris |

Qoute:
"So the badge in the OP is no longer worn by any of the London Guards?" This badge was designed to be worn by members of the HQ, where they would cover each of the 4 companies, each with own guards cap badge/star. This is why Prince Edward wore the Officers variant, as he is Colonel of the London Guards and not affiliated with the actual Guards units. I would expect the Regimental appointments like CO, Adj, RSM etc to wear this badge. Whether this badge has gone into production or not I am unsure. Attached is a picture of the RSM showing the officers version, proving the badge was issued to some degree, but I have seen no evidence if the SNCO variant. The London regt is a blatant Household Division ploy to create Guards posts in the Reserve where they never had any before. It creates a Guards Reserve headcount and is 'political' rather than military sensible. Alas the London Scottish were the victims.

I couldn’t agree more and that is well understood within the Army now. Apparently one element was to create yet another increment that can be used for bolstering numbers available for public duties too.

We already have a reserve London Guards its called The Honourable Artillery Company... Slightly seriously, why no Welsh Guards company?

I can only assume as the junior regiment they were bottom of the list and there were not enough companies for a 5th.

If it is these LONDON REGIMENT titles then perhaps he was the last RSM of the London Regiment? Subsequently transitioned to be the first RSM of the London Guards? Or is there a new white on red LONDON GUARDS shoulder title? Tim
