Default Unknown Petty Officers Badge

I recently acquired this Petty Officers badge but it is unlike any I have ever seen before. As it has a King's Crown it obviously dates from the first half of the 20th century but apart from that I know nothing about it. I do not think it is British but possibly from a Commonwealth country such as Canada. However, I may be wrong - I usually am! There is also a distinct possibility that it relates to some Sea Cadet organisation. Any information about it would be greatly appreciated!

Pete

It does look like Second World War vintage. I don't believe it is the Canadian Navy.
I wonder if the 3 strips are for long-term service??

Default Unknown Petty Officers Badge

Hi Ray

Thanks for the reply. I agree that the stripes probably represent Good Conduct badges but I have never seen them incorporated into the badge of rating like this.

I should have said that the badge is actually quite small - 10 cm from top to bottom and 7 cm wide at the base.

The main reason that I thought it might be Canadian was because the only organisation I have found (so far!) who incorporate Good Conduct badges and badges of rating into one badge is the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. But their badges are white and of a slightly different design. I haven't been able to find out anything about what badges they wore in the past.

Default Unknown Petty Officers Badge

Thanks Nozzer!

The badge shown in the link is very similar. Unfortunately the e-bay link no longer has any photos on it so I'm unable to compare any badges shown. I'll have to see if anything further came of the original badge query. I'll follow that one up.

I had thought there was a possibility that it came from a child's sailor suit and it's starting to look that way. Thanks again.

Nozzer you are brilliant!

Having pointed me in the right direction I was able to find the following photograph almost immediately. Problem solved!

It is a badge from a child's sailor suit.

Thanks.

Default RN Child's uniform

I actually had one of these on the child's uniform way back when, it likely dated from pre 2WW period, perhaps earlier, but unfortunately I sold it to a fellow who ran a military book(with insignia) store & he had it on display in the store for a long time.

He passed a couple yrs ago & everything all gone now. No idea where it went.

Hello Pete,

Glad to be of assistance.

If I remember correctly, the badge in the original link was blue on white.
