FMT600 sums it up very well for most of us I should think. No point us picking sides of a wall to stand behind. Bit of transparency needed in the case of long term members being banned though. As Alan involved in this thread with Andy at the time of the ban I hope a third party reviewed the situation. Regards, Paul.

My own thoughts are simply, that politeness costs nothing, it should never degenerate to a barrack room brawl, agree to disagree and simply move on.
It seems to me, at least, after being invited to join this forum by a member from another forum where this sort of thing simply does not happen, that a number of members seem to feel that they can hide behind their "user" name and just write whatsoever they like, but, the reality is, that those same people would be very unlikely to speak in that manner if they were face to face, in the same room, so why do it on here.

Bit late to the party, but having reviewed the posts and threads available (I gather some posts have been deleted) I feel the permanent banning of Andy seems a tad excessive?
Come on guys; How many of us have gained from Andy's help, advice and input over the years? The 1058 thanks he has to posts he's written pretty much sums it up. I don't get it. Why aren't members more adverse to this? What was the actual reason for the ban? Foul language? Collectors are passionate, and, ok, bad language needn't be used, but come on, guys - really? We can take a few *****'s can't we?
I think the forum will be a lesser place without the input of knowledgeable members, and Andy has always been generous in sharing his expertise.
Unless I'm missing something, I think this ban is detrimental to the Forum, and should be addressed by the members who are, in fact, the raison d'etre of the Forum.

A bit.

Egypt Medal at number 1 and Khedives Star at 3 were awarded from 1882 - 1889, so could be 1882 at earliest and after 1889 upto 1902 at latest.

regards

Second one is the Khedive's Star, so I assume the first one is the Egypt Medal 1882-1889. Last one could possibly be a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

I eagerly await the medal guru’s input but I can see a Khedive Star which was awarded from the early 1880s to 1890s.

As he is Permanent Staff Sergeant Major Instructor I would almost certainly say VB period and post RVC.

Excellent, thanks. I’ve never seen that pill box hat badge described as anything other than an RV’s glengarry.

Keith,

To me the photo is post 1885 the change over date to 1VB and its entirely possible for men to be wearing their old badges years later and may have been officially worn by the 1VB, I dont know.

To me the image says c. 1890.

regards

Good afternoon Andy, Do you consider that the Blk Br, POW, bezants badge could have been worn by 1VB on a glengarry?

I contacted him through a friend and received a prompt, most helpful and authoritative reply. Extremely grateful.
