Thank you Andy, that’s very useful. It might help to determine the dress of similar appointees in regiments of the line, both with regards to sword and sword ‘carriage’ (the slings), and the round forage cap with laced peak, as the two seemed to have gone together.

No idea, been searching for the info for years. I have white metal badges to all the Guards Regiments, except the Welsh.

I thought the WM Coldstream Guards badge was an old Militia badge?

Cant remember which.

2nd Royal Surrey Militia, Simon. The regimental title was set on the garter of the cap badge without crown.

I've seen them a couple of times in wm but mine has been brooched and silver, I know there's a couple more knocking around in other collections and unknown to what they are so was pleased to see Andy's op, so if its not as the description what does the badge look like.

I assume it to mean the standard silver and enamel cut rayed cap star worn by NCO's, Warrant officers and Officers in different shapes.
