Default Gilt Cape Fastener but for who

A nice quality Gilt Cape Fastener but for who,

two Gilt masks that appear to be a Green man motif I have no idea if military or not.

Not dissimilar to the image on the buckle of officers sword belt slings, I wonder if these could be a general pattern for officers in regiments that did not have a regimental pattern ?

I didn't want to show my ignorance and ask what a "green man" was.

It's more likely to be for something like an opera cloak or some other type of late victorian cape than a military one.

(It's a plain ring chain, almost every military style I've seen uses a ring and loop pattern of chain).

The style of lion is more French than English though.

PB try this re the green man

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Man

then Google Green man images

Thanks for your input Chaps perhaps just a posh 19th Century Cape fastener after all

I had hoped for a military connection.

regards

I agree that if military it's not British - the British lion's however crudely cast, don't stick their tongues out!

European or, more likely, a civilian item as suggested.
