The "formation sign" painted on the helmet represents B Squadron RNWMP. The background colour should be purple, but I can't tell for sure what colour it is.

Default Siberia

Is it not for the American forces in Siberia or perhaps North Russia?

I collect RNWMP/NWMP items, but with no provenance or naming to the officer, or recognizable RNWMP symbols it may be one of those "neat but not neat enough" items. There are a few excellent reference books by James Boulton and Don Klancher, including one dedicated specifically to headgear. If this variant was in the book it would make it a lot more desirable.

The formation patch for the RNWMP was a star on the purple rectangular background. I don't think the "star" became a US symbol until into the SWW?

My two cents, looks like the North Russia patch to me blue background with a white star.

Default North Russia

It is the North Russia Expeditionary Force, white star on blue background. The RNWMP symbol is a red star on a purple background.

Yes, I see the white on blue... should have checked the ref, and not relied on the memory. Now, where were we?
