FAA wings
Hi All
Can anyone please confirm whether these are genuine or not, and whether they are WWII vintage or not? Thanks, cheers, Alex |

The badge was introduced with AFO 4491/1942 for Telegraphist/Airgunner 2nd and 3rd class of the FAA. First badges were available in March 1943 (AFO 988/1943) and this one was pattern-no. 96A.
All "A"-pattern badges were still hand-embroidered, woven or machine-embroidered badges (a kind of "economy"-badges) were marked with an X, so this should have been X.96.A, but there was no X-pattern for this badge. Also the late war and early post-war machine embroidered badges of the RN have no white counter-thread on reverse, always a black one. Have you checked the white tread under UV-light ? From 1950 on this badge was for members of aircrews of the FAA and i guess yours are post 1950 ...... Just my 2 cents, kind regards Markus |
