Default Question - Ebay's Global Shipping Program

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if there is a way for a seller to change postage and resend an invoice when their listing had Ebay's Global Shipping as the postage method?

I bought a GBP5 patch from a seller in the UK and he isn't able to change the postage. Any suggestions?

This is what I see when I try to pay:
Subtotal (1 item) GBP 5.00
Postage GBP 17.83
Import charges GBP 4.11
Order total GBP 26.94

Add in Aussie GST that ebay adds on and it's a monumental ripoff.

Mick

As far as I'm aware eBay have configured the system in such a way as to ensure that it can't be circumvented. I'm sure I'm telling you something that you are already aware, but its unwise to buy anything from anyone who who uses this system. That's either within or outside the UK.

Contributors to this forum have given instances of having to pay "customs duty" twice, despite the assertion that all charges are included in the GSP final invoice price. No one seems to know into whose pocket the collected "customs duty" goes. But, when the item reaches its destination customs are charging duty and local tax again. Stay well away from GSP users.

Dave.

I am not a big or regular seller on eBay, and the few times I've tried it's been a real pain. What I saw on one, was that the Global shipping seemed to be the default and I only discovered it when the buyer was billed and charged a terrible amount for a domestic shipment. He paid it, but I returned everything over the actual cost to him.

Unfortunately, once it is sold with Global as the choice, he won't be able to change it. I encountered it once from a seller and we ended up canceling the original buy and redoing it, with me ready to pounce once he relisted it. Funny thing was he listed some dumb thing like the moon or a sunrise which he gave me as the item and the deal went fine with decent shipping.

At one time eBay was a really good place to buy and sell, but has gotten so caught up in their drawers that it's not unusual to have an experience be a hassle!!!

Good luck!!!

Terry

Thanks Dave. I'll try and see if I can pay the seller direct. Ebay might be sneaky bastards but there are ways to enable direct buyer to seller communications as well

It's a patch I'm really after and the seller said he was happy to send direct. The issue is trying to pay him.

If he has a PayPal account can you just send him the money to his account? Of course unless he will probably still have to pay eBay their part.

I'll see if he can give me his paypal account details. I'll pay him directly and he can cancel the transaction and save on fees.

Win/Win for the buyer and seller in that case. Hopefully I can communicate the paypal details without ebay trying to block the message.

Unless you have his email address or you have his, it a very dangerous step to try to exchange those details via the eBay messaging system. They have the system set up so as to detect users who try to arrange sales outside eBay. If you are caught they will suspend either one or both of you. Not the end of the world I know, but that could cause some inconvenience. And even then, you may not be able to achieve your objective.

The seller was able to email me his paypal address is it worked out to be win/win for both of us.

It got me thinking, if a buyer pays for an item via paypal and ebay (and not the seller) receives the payment (and then pays it into the buyers bank account as per their new process) I would guess ebay rather than the seller would be liable for any paypal claim should one occur?

I don't know about everyone else but I'm starting to look for other buy/sell options apart from ebay.

As a buyer I'm not happy that sellers are forced to offer their Global Shipping Service (its a terrible customer experience for me) and as a seller I'm not happy to be forced into ebay's practice of being paid by bank transfer rather than via paypal (which is my preferred option).

They are putting greed and profits above offering a great customer experience.

Bye Bye Ebay!
