Default Pegasus Brooch Badge

I was very interested to see the Pegasus brooch badge being offered for sale by Monty.

In my book Badges on Battle Dress I recorded that in November 1963 the Commanding Officer of the Parachute Regiment pointed out that as battle dress was being replaced the Pegasus formation sign would no longer be worn on any uniform except on the jungle green bush shirt on the rare occasions when Airborne troops served in the Far East.

Pegasus he pointed out is imminent danger of being lost, 'a fact of some concern as it is the sign associated with the history, traditions and accomplishments of Airborne Forces’.

Noting that various suggestions had been made as to how best to retain Pegasus in the new orders of dress, he concluded that ‘The most practicable…appears to be a small badge…worn either on the right breast, or on the left upper arm in a position corresponding to that of the parachute wing on the right upper arm’ for which he proposed the adoption of The silver brooch badge sold by…the OCA at 10/6d or the square badge in blue and maroon sold by the Security Fund at 2/6d’ .

Although no action was taken on the CO's suggestion I believe that the badge shown could be the silver brooch badge referred to in 1963 and would welcome comments.

My thanks to Monty for permission to use his photos.

Jon

Very similar (but not quite identical) one is shown on Regimental Brooches site described as :

A scarce original circa Second World War period large oxidized silver plated 'Airborne Pegasus sweetheart brooch'.
