Hi all,

A pleasing but not that rare I should think Army Service Corps Volunteer OR's WM KC one-piece helmet plate with fixed ASC letters in script. Described as the General Pattern ASC Voluteer helmet plate in K&K as Figure 995.

According to Ray Westlake's book on shoulder titles there were only two units noted to the Volunteer ASC, 1st Lothian and Suffolk, so not that common I would think.

As to whether there were any more I will let the more knowledgeable tell us.

Both of those Volunteer helmet plates are actually shown in Kipling & King with the strap bearing the units name rather than the Royal motto. You raise a good point from Westlake and like you I await more input from other members on this topic, cheers Dean,

I think Westlake shows the 2 units with their own bespoke s/ts. I would expect all of the others to have worn w/m ASC titles.

I don't think I have actually seen a WM ASC shoulder title, where are they all hiding ?

No idea but there there were these ASC units in London alone in 1908:

In 'Badges and Insignia of the Royal Army Service Corps, Royal Corps of Transort & their Predecessors' by Kellock & McHenry it says: "Some Army Service Corps Volunteer units wore helmet plates with the unit identified on them rather than the general use plates this would have been at the commanding officers discretion and would have been purchased privately".

Also worn 1908-14 by the ASC (TF).
