I am happy with the two parts of this but do they belong together

Unfortunately this is not genuine, nor what the BW plaid brooch looked like. It is a cap badge added to a blank brooch with the lugs folded over to hold it on. The cap badge appears to be genuine however, and would be worth removing and keeping.

That echoes my thoughts plus the pin is a good replacement for a broken one I have just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something

The pin is unlikely to fit another hinge assy if broken or missing.
